2002

21 December 2002

Another small update to let you all know Ancient Rites will be playing a gig at the P60 in Amstelveen (The Netherlands) on 03 January.

16 December 2002

Just a small update this time. A more personal one than normal, and one we had rather not have had to make.

We'd like to remember a young Trooper whose life was cut short in a traffic accident last week. It is especially striking because 16 year old Ruben Pante was in the center of a photo taken by yours truly at the Ancient Rites performance during the Bang Your Brain festival, last 26 October. Together with tens of other Troopers in the photo, his enthusiasm made this an exceptional image capturing the grand atmosphere among the audience. Therefore it seems like we all knew him just a little bit.
His friends have also given notice of the fact that Ruben will be buried holding an Ancient Rites plectrum in his hand. Needless to say all of this has made a huge impact on the band.
You can sign the mourning register, which will be presented to Ruben's family after his burial, at http://www.deniall.be. May he rest in peace.

07 December 2002

Three extra pictures were added to the Stekene gallery (Lugbúrz Festival of last 05 October), provided to us by Forhekset.

We've added a number of new links to online interviews on our Links page.
To make finding them easy on you all, here's a list with direct links:
Delirium Mag (USA) - extensive and capturing interview in English
GothCore (The Netherlands) - similarly interesting talk with Jan, if you understand Dutch
Italian Black Metal Division (Italy) - again a rather interesting interview in English
Music Extreme (Argentina) - a short interview, also in English

Two more reviews for Dim Carcosa have been added on our Reviews page. Both are in German, and one of them includes a rather interesting comparison of Ancient Rites with another band. A comparison which had not yet entered our minds, for one. Both reviews are on top of the list of Dim Carcosa reviews.

In our quest for more online Ancient Rites material, we also came across guitar tabs for Mother Europe. We've added a link in our Various Links section, as well as a link to the Ancient Rites feature by Metal Gospel.

On that same location, you'll also find a banner for Erik's side project called Plusminus. It concerns a hardrock cover band playing songs of AC/DC, Kiss, Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy. They're scheduled to play a so-called try-out gig in Harderwijk (The Netherlands) on December 20th. Needless to say Erik's Personal Profile (Biography page) has been updated accordingly, as well.

In closing, note the band will be taking part in the Hell Fest in Leszno (Poland) next week, 14 December. Details can be found in the Upcoming Gigs box.

15 November 2002

Walter AH-DF's neverending interview is after all living up to its name with the second chapter being presented. We opted to send a few questions to the second longest running member of Ancient Rites, being drummer Walter.
Go here to read about his impressions on the band's past, future, drumming in particular, and more.

Gunther has shared a number of photos from his private collection with us. The Troopers Gallery now holds an extra photo of him with Greek Troopers back in the early years.
In the Unsigned Gallery you will find two more promo photos from the photo shoot around 1991/92, leading up to the release of the Evil Prevails 7"EP. They are very rare, hardly ever having been used in publications, so we hope you enjoy them as much as we do, alongside the classic live photo that has been added to the same gallery.
The Related Gallery, in its turn, hosts another off stage photo of Gunther leading the metal life back in 1995.

The gallery we opened last time with photos from the Bang Your Brain Festival in Roeselare (Belgium) has seen the addition of five photos we received from Flemish Trooper Ares. Checking them out here is well worth your trouble.

As a side note, we're also glad to be able to announce Gunther's Oi! side project of Lion's Pride entering the studios this coming weekend to record a song for a compilation CD to be released by their label Pure Impact. Work on their debut full length should soon start, too.

04 November 2002

We have pictorial documentation of the latest AR gig that took place at the sympathetic underground festival Bang Your Brain in Roeselare (Belgium). Find it here.

Jan's Personal Profile has been updated with a bit of new equipment one of the band's six string heroes acquired. It's still to be found over on the Biography page.

One of our online links to AR interviews has gone dead, so we're now hosting the Finnish text of the Firebox interview ourselves. Find it on our Articles page.

In the Discography, we've added direct links to the lyrics for The Diabolic Serenades and Blasfemia Eternal, which we've had on the Site for a while now.

And The Hordes Stood As One!--
DVD Screenshot Unbelievable, but true. It's not an hallicunation, nor a fata morgana. This WebCave is not dead yet! Not at all! But all good things only come around once in a while...how's that for a badass excuse?! A very bad one, indeed. Anyway, here's some interesting news: The recording of the Live DVD / CD "And The Hordes Stood As One" went really great as many of you witnessed...What a memorable gig! Also from a technical point of view both the audio and video recordings turned out really professional (see the screenshots on the right). This DVD and liveCD will be a kick ass document!!! Releasedate of the liveCD is February, 3rd next year through the Hammerheart label. The date of the DVD is not certain yet as last extra features are being added at this very moment, but the aim is an end-of-year release. As for now, here's already the tracklist of the DVD:

16 October 2002

A new gallery is online with photos of Ancient Rites at the Lugbúrz Festival last 05 October.

Gunther also provided us with a special image; a drawing made by a Barcelona Trooper years ago. Look for it in the Unsigned gallery. If you have similar artwork, we will gladly welcome it to the site.

Everon CD-cover Back in April, when we announced Gunther would be contributing to the Black Widows CD (see our last update), we also mentioned one of the new releases of German progressive metal band Everon. This CD has been released a little while ago and is entitled Flesh.
In the words of the band, the release illustrates their heavier side. Grunt vocals by the AR frontman can be found on the song Juliet of which you can listen to an exerpt on this link to Everon's official homepage.

We've added a link to the brand new site for Darkgrove Design, which shows and promotes the work of Jan in the music business regarding artwork and cover design. You'll find it under Various Links.

26 September 2002

As the band is preparing for the upcoming gigs, AH-DF dove back into the private AR photo collection of Walter. This time around, we dug out a series of photos from a photoshoot just before the release of the band's full length debut The Diabolic Serenades. The total of these 14 rare and exclusive photos can be found in our Unsigned Gallery. You can start looking at the series straight away by clicking this link for the first photo.

Black Widows Black Widows CD-cover In the mean time, the debut album by Portuguese all female black/gothic band Black Widows is up for release soon and will be entitled Sweet... The Hell. Of course this announcement is justified on these pages thanks to Gunther appearing on guest vocals on two songs. (See our update of 18 April.)
The ladies already shared their sounds with AH-DF and all we can say is this should be an interesting release to a fair share of Ancient Rites Troopers.
Gunther will be attending the release party in Lissabon on 28 September. During his stay, he will also take part in the recording of a video for the band.

08 September 2002

Upon special request of the band, the group photo on the main page has been replaced with a composed live photo. The original backstage photo with the full current line-up of AR can now be found in the Signed Gallery.

Hvozd u Konice Gallery We also have the new gallery online with photos of the Brutal Assault Festival in the Czech Republic. We may add the event actually took place at Hvozd u Konice. Namest na Hane (as mentioned earlier) is where the festival used to take place in previous years.
Another detail: Ancient Rites performed on the 23rd and Danse Macabre on the 24th - not vice versa.
We might add photos of the DM gig are available on their official site.

More festivalitis can be explored through the link we're providing for the upcoming Lugbúrz Festival in the Upcoming Gigs box.

We're also featuring the lyrics for Ancient Rites' debut album The Diabolic Serenades. One or two gaps are left for now which we hope to be able to fill in with additional direct help from the band. What we have on offer right now is already the result of a substantial helping hand on Gunther's behalf.

30 August 2002

Thunderstorms and other 'unfavourable' weather conditions have not lost their effect on the equipment hosting AH-DF, preventing us from being able to update the site any sooner than this. Nevertheless, we've had a bit of material available for a while which we are finally able to offer you now.

Eurorock 2002 Gallery AH-DF was not the only party taking pictures at the Eurorock Festival. Proof of that are the ones that have been added to the Eurorock gallery, courtesy of Ann Kermans.

Erik's Personal Profile received another small update with info on his unplugged battle axe, another hero and a metal classic he added to his list of favourite CDs. Find it on the Biography page.

In the mean time, Ancient Rites has performed at the seventh edition of the Brutal Assault Festival in Namest na Hane (Czech Republic) on Saturday 24 August. The bandmembers were very enthusiastic about the reactions of the crowd. We already received a few photos of the event through Erik and we're hoping to receive more from some of the Czech Troopers. Needless to say they will be hosted in their own gallery during the next update.
We might add Danse Macabre, the Gothic Rock band featuring Gunther, Jan and Davy, performed at the same festival on Friday the 23rd.

In the mean time, there are rumours about AR gigs in November. We will keep you informed if and when they are confirmed.

On our Links page, we have a link to the AR feature on the renewed Dutch Metal Mania gateway.
We've also linked to quite an interesting interview at Metalfan.nl. The interview with Jan is in Dutch and handles both Ancient Rites and Danse Macabre. Probably the most interesting specific AR related information in there concerns the live release. It is scheduled for an October/November release and will be entitled ...And the Hordes Stood as One, including parts of Dim Carcosa and Fatherland lyrics in the title.
The bandmembers are quite enthusiastic about the power of the recordings and the images, apparently bringing across the wild reactions of the audience quite well.
Speaking of the live recordings, Metalfan.nl also has a gig review with 10 rather nice photos of the event. We've included a link to that as well.
Furthermore, on our Links Exchange page, we're featuring a link to the Israeli Alternative Magazine.

To conclude, you may have noticed we finally managed to get the bandmembers to put their heads together for a group picture of the full line-up including Davy, which we now have on our main page. It is not without pride we can say we're the first to be able to even offer a complete band photo with this line-up. Thanks to all five bandmembers for sparing the time at Eurorock.

07 August 2002

First and foremost we bring you a new gallery with photos of the band's recent performance at the Eurorock Festival. It includes a good few backstage photos and you'll also find an extra photo of Jan and Gunther giving an interview after the gig. That one is in our Signed gallery.
Another band playing the festival was the Italian Lacuna Coil. Illustrating the good relations between both bands, we've established a Link Exchange.

More Links can be found to interviews at Metal Message (German) and Lunar Hypnosis Webzine (English).

On top of this page, find a link for additional info on the Lugburz Festival taking place on 05 October. It's in the Upcoming Gigs box.
A gig in the Czech Republic is in the pipeline as well - both for Ancient Rites and Danse Macabre as a matter of fact. We'll let you know as soon as these dates are confirmed.

20 July 2002

The Biography has been updated and a list of former bandmembers and session musicians have been added. Also look for an update in Erik's profile, revealing the addition of a new sixstring to his collection.

Thanks to Erik passing some photos on to us, we've been able to add six more of them to the Machelen Gallery as well as open a new Stuttgart Gallery. The DVD Gallery has grown with six more photos as well.

More extra photos can be found in the Signed Gallery (Gunther putting his autograph in a rather original place) and the Trooper Gallery (Rites and Hordes through the years).

Speaking of Troopers, we've opened a new page in our Textual Section called Trooper Mail in which we will be hosting reactions from Ancient Rites Troopers to anything having to do with the band. That includes e.g. releases and gigs, but also this very Site. It is always open to new submissions.

The Articles Page in that same Textual Section has grown with an interview in Dutch by Vampire Magazine which we used to feature as an external link. That very interview has now been pulled off line at the mag's own Site and replaced by a new one in English. While we're now hosting the original interview ourselves, a link has been provided to the new one on our Links page.

Speaking of links, we've exchanged some with the Flemish Swords of Metal and British Raw Nerve Promotions on our Link Exchange page.

10 July 2002

The entire site has moved back to a private server, giving us greater liberty in the file sizes and formats we can host. To celebrate this event, we have created a Downloads page in the Visual section on which we are finally offering you the long announced video images as well as three different WinAmp skins and a few original and exclusive Ancient Rites wallpaper designs to choose from for your desktop.
The latter section is open for your submissions. So if you have a wallpaper which you feel is worth sharing with the world, we will be happy to consider offering it on AH-DF. Simply mailing it through will do.

On the Discography page, we've added an extra feature for the Scenes of Splendour Video CDR with a detailed infosheet and tracklist.

The band's recordlabel Hammerheart recently held a poll on their Website to see which of their releases is the visitors' favourite. For some reason, the results never came to surface. They are nevertheless quite interesting to our taste, which is why we are featuring them here.

Out of fifteen candidates, the winner turned out to be the
Ancient Rites album Dim Carcosa. Out of the 375 votes
that were cast, 155 went to AR. The top five looks like this:

1. Ancient Rites "Dim Carcosa" 155 votes - 41%
2. Mercenary "Everblack" 80 votes - 21%
3. Necrophobic "Bloodhymns" 27 votes - 7%
4. Primordial "Spirit the Earth Aflame" 23 votes - 6%
5. Satariel "Phobos and Deimos" 18 votes - 4%

Hail to all Ancient Rites Troopers who voted!

01 July 2002

Screenshot Last week, the band finally managed to get their video on TV. Victory or Valhalla was broadcasted in the weekly one hour Metal/Core show Error on the Flanders version of TMF (The Music Factory).
The self-named Danse Macabre video of the Gothic Rock project of Gunther and Jan was aired minutes later in that same show. At long last, quality music gets recognition from some more major chanels on the home front. (Even if the AR video was announced with an infamous typing error in the title.)
(Thanks to Maaike Deketele for the screenshot.)

Thanks to Gunther and Etienne, we're now also able to offer the US version of the cover of the Evil Prevails... EP in our Discography.

26 June 2002

To illustrate the success that the live CD/DVD recordings were, we are featuring a limited number of photos taken at this event. Watch them in our DVD Gallery and read our short report here, including a few reactions from bandmembers.

16 June 2002

First of all, the gig last Friday was a great success! Hundreds of enthusiastic Troopers chanting and moving around like there was no tomorrow... It was a majestic sight and we all lived some great moments.
Those of you who weren't there will at least have something great to look at in a couple of months...!

We'd also like to point out the band's appearance at the Eurorock Festival has moved from 03 to 02 August. For further details, you can still visit the Eurorock site.

12 June 2002

We're looking at a full house for Friday's gig where the band will be making live CD/2LP and DVD/VHS recordings. Only those who already made a (free) reservation will be able to make it in.
Hail!

05 June 2002

Gunther passed on an interview to us, published in the Philippines. We're glad to be able to offer it on our Articles page.

The Visual section is holding a new gallery with photos of the band at the Biebob Metal Fest on 06 August 2000.

On our Links page, you'll find a link under Various Links to the French site Darkmag, leading you straight into their Ancient Rites feature.

Finally, note a precise date has been set for the band's appearance at EuroRock. They will be on stage on 03 August 2002. For details, we refer to the festival's site.
Two more dates have been added to the Upcoming Gigs box, being the 5th Lugburz Festival in Steneke (Belgium) on 05 October and a gig in Roeselare (Belgium) on 26 October.

4 June 2002

Live DVD / CD recording!--
What is this?! There's some movement in the WebCave! Yes yes! You see I didn't keep my new year's resolution: nearly half a year this site has been kept untouched. If it would have been a garden, it'd have been full of weed. If it'd have been a women, she would have left bigtime! Anyway, more time WILL be spent on updates and I hope you'll sense the result of that very soon.

Apart from that, the real reason of this little sign of life is to remind you of the live-recordings which 'Rites will tape on the 14th of June in Biebob, Belgium! The Fatherland/Dim Carcosa producers will put everything on tape which will appear on a Live DVD / CD / Double LP and VHS Video! Needless to say the recordings will be ab-so-lu-tely professional, no half work here. So, make sure we see your head and other bodyparts banging and join us in Biebob! More info on www.planetmusicbiebob.com. See you there and...make sure you comb your (chest)hair!!!

23 May 2002

We're proud to finally be able to open our Background page in the Textual section. On these new pages we will be featuring texts exploring the background of Gunther's lyrics as we go along.
Blasting this section to an open is a closer look at the theme of On Golden Fields (De Leeuwen Dansen), being the Battle of the Golden Spurs which has proven allimportant for the history of Flanders - the Fatherland of AR. And that of AH-DF, for that matter. We hope this will help AR Troopers worldwide to better understand the lyrics, in conjunction with Gunther's excquisite liner notes.

On the pictorial side, it's rarity time at AH-DF. Walter dug up a few very old photos from his private collection, dating back to the very early years of the band. We've opened a new gallery to celebrate our being able to share these gems with you and aptly baptized it 1991 Gallery.
If this material has been seen before at all, it wasn't by a whole lot of people, so enjoy this exclusive feature!

A couple of extra, more recent pictures were also added to our Troopers Gallery, more precisely from the last AR gig in Koersel. A devoted Trooper also passed a scan on to us with the signatures of all bandmembers during Graspop 1999. You'll find this in the Signed Gallery

On the Link Exchange page, we've added links to Impaled Nazarene and two sites promoting Flemish metal bands, being Duister Vlaanderen and Vlaams Staal.

14 May 2002

Gunther has written a reaction to the newspaper article we had in our update feature of 28 April 2002.
We have made a separate page for it and are featuring that on our Articles page.

08 May 2002

The date and location for the live CD/DVD recordings have been confirmed!
Ancient Rites will be performing at the Biebob in Vosselaar (Belgium) on 14 June 2002. Entrance is free (!) but it is necessary to reserve your tickets. To do so, go to http://www.planetmusicbiebob.com.

See you there!

28 April 2002

Main feature of the pictorial side of our update this time around, is a new gallery with photos of the gig the band played in Koersel-Beringen on 19 April 2002.
On the right hand side, you can see a small article in which the festival was announced, published in the local major newspaper Het Belang van Limburg. (Thanks to Hans Bergs for providing the article.) A somewhat prejudiced approach was taken in this feature if you ask us, but be your own judge... For better understanding: "Vlaams Blok" is an extreme-right political party in Flanders and "Blokker" is a term used to refer to its supporters.

The text reads:
«(...) Ancient Rites. Especially regarding that last band, there is quite a bit of controversy. A number of fans are said to be sympathetic to the national socialist philosophy. "Look, normally I don't talk about that. I'm not going to apologise every time I talk to a Blokker. We make extreme music. Logically, it attracts extreme people. I won't deny the fact that racists or Vlaams Blokkers come our show. And yes, I even talk to them. But that doesn't mean I agree with their points of view. From where I stand, everyone is welcome. I won't exclude anyone. We don't take a political stand as a band, either," vocalist Gunther Theys once said in an interview with this paper that didn't get published. You've been warned.»
Maybe they might want to consider actually publishing the interview...

Three more photos were added to the Various Live Photos gallery, taken at Wetteren (Belgium) on 25 September 1999. Incidentally, two of them were featured with an interview in the now defunct Sceldelant 'zine. We now have that interview both in Dutch and English.

Three online interviews which we used to feature links to have apparently disappeared from the Net, so we're now picking them back up through a feature on our Articles page. Look for the German Musik an Sich, Italian Stargazer and Icelandic Zodiac Chronicle.

While those three dead links were obviously removed from our Links page, two banners were added under Various Links for the Official Homepages of Gunther's bands Iron Clad and Lion's Pride.

AH-DF also attended a couple of Danse Macabre gigs lately.
One of our photos has been added to the Related gallery.

18 April 2002

Available for the first time ever, we've added the full lyrics of Blasfemia Eternal to our Lyrics page. Special thanks go to Gunther for completing them for us. Needless to say they have once again not simply been copied from what's there black on white, but put against the actual release. What you hear is what you get...
On the Articles page, you'll find a 1992 interview from Finnish underground 'zine Diarium Autopsia.

More photos from the 2001 Graspop Festival ended up in the appropriate gallery courtesy of Jan. He also gave us a few photos to give extra volume to the Various Live Photos gallery which we installed during our last update.
Erik sent us images of the two covers for the demos of his former band Inquisitor, now featured in the Related gallery.

Portuguese article In the mean time, Gunther has informed us of his participation in the forthcoming releases of Portuguese Gothic Metal act Black Widows and German Progressive Metal band Everon. He will appear as guest vocalist on both albums.
On the right, you can see a short article about the recordings Gunther did in Portugal the day after appearing at the Piorno Rock Festival in Spain.
The text reads:
Black Widows with Gunther Theys
Singer Gunther Theys, vocalist for Ancient Rites and Danse Macabre, has recently been in the Rec'n'Roll Studios recording his participation in the new album from Portuguese female act Black Widows. This will be the debut CD for Black Widows, the first Portuguese female act to play heavy metal. The successor of the EP named "Dark Side of an Angel" will be called "Sweet... the Hell" and will have 10 tracks: "Falling Moon", "Awaken", "The Wereone", "In Dearing", "In Death", "Life's Wish", "Unleash the Tears of a Rose", "She decides to Die", "Sweet, the Hell" and "Womb". The release is scheduled for July.
(Thanks to Lokas for the translation.)
We will keep you informed as we learn more about these releases.

We've also heard rumours about Ancient Rites playing a special gig soon during which a live CD and DVD would be recorded. As soon as we get confirmation, this will be the place to hear about it!

08 April 2002

New photos have been added to the Troopers Gallery. We have also instigated a new gallery for Various Live Photos Gallery Various Live Photos of gigs of which a limited amount of pictures are available. Opening the gallery are photos from the Note do Metal at Seixal (Portugal) on 18 March 2000 and Prague (Czech Republic) on 06 December 2001 - one of the first gigs for the At the Gates of Dim Carcosa Tour.

Furthermore, in the Signed gallery, you will find three exclusive off stage photos dating back to the Tel Aviv adventure of late June 2001.

On our Link Exchange page, you will find new links to Dutch ancient death metal band Pentacle and their fellow countrymen of The Embodiment.

26 March 2002

A full feature of the band's appearance at the Piorno Rock Festival in Pinos Puente (Granada), Spain on 16 March 2002 is online. It includes a full blown gallery in the Live Photos section and a gig report including bandmembers' reactions.

We also have a few backstage photos on offer, which we uploaded to the Signed gallery, which now also holds two images dating back to the Ancient Rites and Danse Macabre double bill in Seixal, Portugal on 18 March 2000.

Last but not least, we have created a new gallery and baptized it Troopers in which you will find photos of Ancient Rites Troopers worldwide, teaming up with bandmembers in front of the camera. Needless to say we're counting on you to send in your own photos.

On a more general note, Walter has helped us finetuning the Discography of which the lay-out has been slightly refreshed at the same time. We've also added a link to American classic black metal band Sathanas on our Link Exchange page.

22 March 2002

The band has been informed that the Southcastle Metal Double Day event in Sines (Portugal), where they were scheduled to play on 29 August, has been cancelled. Apparently, the costs for the organizers were far greater than the funds available, rendering it impossible for them to continue with their plans.

In the mean time, we are working on a feature of the Piorno Rock Festival in Pinos Puente (Spain) which did take place and where AH-DF was present, as well. We're hoping to be able to put a good bit of material online, soon.

12 March 2002

We've added a really old interview - dated 1991 - done for Esoteric Mag from Poland. It includes some amazing old live photos which of course found their way to the Unsigned gallery as well. Don't expect crisp quality, since these images were taken from one of those real underground publications of yesteryear. Still, they are great to look at.
Content wise, there are also some interesting and little known facts in the interview.

AH-DF seems to be growing into a source to be reckoned with regarding online material of Inquisitor and Prestige, as well. Thanks to Erik and Jan, we can offer you several photos of their former bands. Jan also sent us a few shots of some of his current side-projects. Needless to say, all this material is in the Related gallery which has hence received a welcome boost.

At the same time, Jan gave us an ad for the Graspop Festival 2001 he has on file.
It's been added to that gallery.

Also notice the two extra dates that were added to the Upcoming Gigs box on top. The EuroRock Festival is taking place August 1 through 4. An exact date for Ancient Rites remains to be confirmed. Needless to say we will keep you posted. The band will also appear at the Southcastle Metal Double Day taking place in Sines (Portugal), nearby Lissabon.

05 March 2002

Graspop Festival, Belgium Another gallery has been added to the Live Photos section since Walter has provided us with photos from the band's appearance at Graspop 2001.

In the Related gallery, you'll also find a photo of Erik's former band Inquisitor.

Our feature of the At the Gates of Dim Carcosa tour is completed with a tour report to be found on a new Articles page in the reorganized Textual section, where you will also find five more old reviews for Dark Ritual, Evil Prevails and The Diabolic Serenades.

25 February 2002

We've added a few extra images to our galleries. In particular, the original band logo has been added to the Unsigned gallery and a promosticker for the release of Dim Carcosa was added to the Signed gallery.

Structural work was done on the Lyrics page. You can now access the lyrics through either the album or select a song you're looking for from an alphabetical list.

Also notice Ancient Rites will be playing a gig at Club 9 in Koersel-Beringen (Belgium) on 19 April. It has been added to our notice box on top of this page, as will other dates as they are confirmed.

13 February 2002

The first part of our neverending interview is now online.
Band leader Gunther talks about his personal views on Ancient Rites' At the Gates of Carcosa Tour which took place in December 2001.

07 February 2002

While we've especially been working on structural changes lately, we have added more photos for your viewing pleasure.

You'll find two new galleries with Live Photos. The first one has shots from the With a Dragons Blaze Festival in Beveren-Leie (Belgium), 13 July 1996. It holds seven bloody live photos as well as the announcement flyer and a great backstage shot.
Furthermore, Jan has provided us with formerly unpublished photos from back when Ancient Rites baptized the main stage of the Graspop Festival at Dessel (Belgium) on 27 June 1999.

At the same time, he has passed on some amazing off stage photos from the 1998 and 1999 tours the band did with Deicide. To view those, go to the Signed gallery.

29 January 2002

Gig posters have been added to the Vilvoorde 1992 and Maasmechelen 1994 galleries, and you will find two more in the Signed gallery: Hoogstraten (Belgium), 07 May 1994 and Merksplas (Belgium), 25 September 1994.
That same gallery has also been enforced with an off stage photo of the band on tour with Belgian black metal band Enthroned in 1996.

In the Related gallery, you'll find an image of Danse Macabre's Totentanz CD bearing Gunther's autograph.

Visual highlight for this update is undoubtedly an amazing old photo of the very first line-up of Ancient Rites, kindly provided to us by original bandmember Wattie. It's in the Unsigned gallery.

On the textual side, we have a feature on an article regarding a "Satanic murder" case from Germany in which Ancient Rites were mentioned. We've also included the band's reaction.

There's a new link to an online interview, this time leading to Street Soldier from The Netherlands. You can go there via the Links page, where you will find it under English interviews.

The Fatherland lyrics and liner notes are also online. As was the case with our premiere feature of Dim Carcosa, these texts are again not simply copied right out of the CD booklet. Rather, they've been checked against what can actually be heard on the recordings. What you hear is what you read...

Extensive picture gallery online!--
They say time goes fast when you are having a good time... Well I can tell you that's absolutely true! It's not only going fast, but as we all know this earthly toilet-life is chaotic and full of surprises...just like this goddamn WebCave isn't it?! It's sometimes hard to fulfill the promises made here in this very own section, but take it as a new year's resolution that in future I'll keep up with promises I, as your humble CaveWizard, will commit myself to! There! Before we get sentimental let me tell you that I don't like new year's resolutions héhé.

Anyway, back to business after this horrible wintersleep (-hangover). First of all we've finally got the picture gallery back online again! Moreover: there are about 70 (!!!) new pictures in there, dating from the very beginning to the later nineties. A special thanks to Gunther & Etienne for diggin' in their archives! One day we'll also add some comments to every pic! We also welcome www.ancienthordes.tk to the world wide web! This fansite is run by no-one else than AR fan #1, Wim Neefs! Being there since the beginning of Rites he has a lot of interesting stuff to share with you people, so go and check it out! But ehrm...don't forget to come back here you poops!!! You see...an Ancient Rites website is like a woman... you can never have enough of them! (Though this very one here was more acting like a man lately: always promising but... ;-)

Ok enough of this craptalk! Expect more updates within the next week and ofcourse check out the Danse Macabre website !

Live Photos has been updated with another gallery holding unpublished photos from the AR gig in Helsinki, Finland which took place on 22 November 2000.

The Other Photos gallery has undergone some serious maintenance because it was outgrowing itself. You will now find it has been split up in three parts. The Related gallery will be featuring photos of the bandmembers in their former bands and/or sideprojects or any other non-AR visual material they share with us. The Unsigned gallery holds all and any AR pictorial material we can lay our hands on before the release of the debut album. The Signed gallery will be holding images since the band signed their first full length recorddeal.

At the same time, a picture of an admittance ticket to a gig of the 1996 tour with Belgian black metal outfit Enthroned has been added to the Signed gallery, along with a photo passed on to us by Gunther, depicting the band in Toulouse, France while on tour with Deicide for the SummerClash Tour in 1998.

The textual side of AH-DF has expanded with two extra reviews on Dim Carcosa, courtesy of Embers (The Netherlands) and Whiplash (Czech Republic) and additional links to online interviews. You will find one in Dutch by Vampire Magazine and a very lengthy one in two parts in Italian by Stargazer.
The Link Exchange section has been brought to a separate page and expanded with three links.
To top things off this time around: all five bandmembers have provided us with the information to put together their Personal Profiles. These have completed the Biography page. It's the place to be if you want to get to know them and their role in the band a little better.

The Other Photos gallery has expanded with an old promo photo of the band with Bart in Athens, as well as a bunch of flyers and backstage passes we received from Jan. He also gave us an image of the poster for the Ancient Rites gig in Tel Aviv, Israel (22 November 2000), which was added to that gallery.
Machelen, Belgium
Even more exclusive material has come our way via Gunther, who is sharing some very old photos of his with us, dating back to his pre-AR days! They've also been added to the Other Photos gallery.

To close things off for this update, we've also added another gallery with live photos, this time with shots from the gig the band played in Machelen, Belgium on 20 October 2001. To see these photos, provided to us by Ann Kermans, go here.

In order to maintain easy and fast accessibility to the site, we've split the Visual page up in several galleries, ensuring fast loading.

Another gallery has been added with screenshots taken from video-images of the AR gig in Halle, Germany (18 December 2001).

The Zaandam gallery has been completed with another photo courtesy of Crowe Photography and a post gig picture was added to the Hamburg gallery.

More photos have been added of the gig in Hamburg on 22 December 2001 closing off the At the Gates of Carcosa Tour, as well as shots from Zaandam in the middle of the tour courtesy of Crowe Photography from The Netherlands.
More photos of the tour are on the way.

In addition, there's a gallery offering photos of one of the first AR gigs after the release of Dim Carcosa in Vosselaar (Belgium) on 15 June 2001. It was announced as a "release gig" for that matter.

We've also started a mailing list you can join if you'd like to be informed whenever AH-DF is updated.
Feel free to join. We guarantee not to pass or sell your e-mail address to any third parties.

After a month of private trial running, a subdivision of the Ancient Hordes (un)officially starts this site online.
The people behind this unofficial fanpage will keep in close contact with the band
and pass on any news from a new perspective.

The dark side has expanded...

The first up to date offering are a first batch of photos of Ancient Rites' At the Gates of Carcosa Tour,
which took them throughout Europe during the month of December 2001.
For details in writing and pictures, visit our Photo Gallery.
Dim Carcosa
You will also find we're the first ones to feature the full lyrics and liner notes of Dim Carcosa
on-line. Copies are sure to follow. Remember you read them here, first.

When going through the site, you'll see there's much more to come...
Keep your eyes on these pages for regular updates.
